The Key to Inspiration, Growth, And Empowerment In Your Yoga Practice

If you are a fellow yogi, you already know the benefits of a yoga practice and maybe even some beyond the mat. Your practice can cultivate confidence, empowerment and can help you develop in various areas of life. If you seek to go deeper, to create a more substantial, resilient practice, stick with me. I’ve got the answer below to find the key to inspiration, growth and empowerment in your yoga practice.

I have fond memories of sweet support from my yoga community back in the mid-'90s. The place where we gathered became our home as a consistent group of yogis coming together at least once a week, but sometimes three times a week, to practice Asana. Walking into this space where I felt the camaraderie and the reliability of like-minded friends who had become family empowered my practice with a sense of intimacy. I felt more connected to myself.

This repetitive act of showing up in this community was solace for my soul. I didn't realize how important it was until the yoga community in Southern California started fracturing. Then it was gone. The community, the sense of intimacy, was gone. There was no "mom and pop" yoga anymore. The subtle non-corporate energy was so palpable at that time, but it shifted to Studio franchises like Core Power® and Yoga Six®, where the studios became money-making machines. That's when the yoga community turned. The culture changed.

This sense of community may seem inaccessible because of COVID, but I see a place now in our fractured communities to develop this way of being again. To create within our immediate communities what I felt so strongly in the early days of my yoga training.

Right now, we are living in an incredible time. In a world of messaging, Amazon®, Instacart®, and Doordash®, the fundamental need to connect has become harder to obtain. Everywhere, people are experiencing changes in their communities. This is why creating connection and community has become more critical now than ever. Community has incredible value for society, and I would say it is the backbone of our world.

“The power of mass intention may ultimately be the force that shifts the tide toward repair and renewal of the planet.” -
— Lynne McTaggart

We have an opportunity to create those intimate circles again and start practicing together regularly. A small family-like group to find your core schedule, core routine, and inspiration to show up day after day with heart-to-heart connections.

“I’ve been working with Tah and attending her events and yoga classes for 2 years now. There is this amazing sense of belonging I feel in her classes. I am a strong introvert and sometimes find difficulty connecting in my local community. The spaces that Tah creates gives an experience I haven’t felt before. I feel safe, connected, and supported. It's been an incredibly powerful experience for me to connect with what was once a group of strangers.” -Savannah I.

The benefits of face-to-face connection are limitless. Human interaction helps our mind and body grasp what is going on around us as it puts things in perspective and strengthens our ability to face life's challenges. Social connections challenge how we see the world, creating opportunities for growth and transformation, which ultimately leads to sustained happiness.

These connections enhance good health, life longevity, improves memory formation, reduces the damaging effects of stress, and can foster a sense of meaning and purpose in life. Community is incredibly powerful for inner healing, creating a higher level of awareness and, in essence, awakening.

We want more of that. I hear you. So here's what I have done. I’ve created Level 9 Yoga, a place to connect and start growing our community. Again. A place where you sense its beauty on a soul level. I have carefully crafted an intimate yoga space with a beautiful Acacia wood deck in the garden to practice on and a gorgeous open kitchen to gather, snack, and sip tea in. Our teachers and I are accredited by Yoga Alliance, and our Yoga Teacher Training is certified.
